The husbands are such an afterthought I don't think even Zun remembers the sisters are supposed to be married. Most of the fandom just ignores the husbands' existence. And why not, given we don't see a damn thing of them.

And besides, the sisters together are their most common ship and no one (should) complain about that.
ZUN thought one day "Let me just say they have husbands so they can seem like they're not like lesbians". He then realized how stupid that was and let the non existent husbands fade from existence. So far all they are is a word and nothing else, ZUN ditched them and so should everyone else. Touhous and husbands don't go together even ZUN knows this.

Well, we gave Youki and Myouren a face and even a personality. Though, they weren't some sort of romantic competition for one of the characters so there's that(save for those that ship byakuren and myouren). Was just idle curiosity, is all.
There are no lesbians in Touhou. There's basically no anything. Save for the fact that a few characters are or have been married or are like Suwako, there is no blatant or even intended romance, love, sex, etc., with very few inklings toward it at all, except for that which has been inferred by fans. Fans will continue to do what they wish, but it's just not a part of or fits the tone of Touhou. Period.
The husbands are mentioned in Cage in Lunatic Runagate, which is no less important than SSIB since they all comprise a whole. In fact, it may be more important, since it's all ZUN, and ties up many of the motivations, backstories, and loose ends of SSIB.
Re: Youki and Myouren, they're also more relevant to their respective games' plot and/or characters than the husbands, who are only an incidental relation and without whom nothing would really change about the relationship between the sisters and Eirin. But however minor the husbands may be it's still canon until ZUN says it's not and is all part of his efforts to build a more thorough world.
If the husbands haven't been mentioned or forgotten about or have seemingly been ditched since then it's because the sisters themselves have fallen by the wayside, not even receiving a profile in Symposium, which was their first mention since Bougetsushou.
FYI it's also never said Kaguya and the sisters are cousins.
I've been posting that a lot, but I never get tired of this.
