you do realize that the convention is to link to the picture itself, right
No, it should point to the work page for sites where Danbooru can not automatically redirect you to the work page, twitter being one of those sites. See the "Source your upload" section of howto:upload.

No, you use the url of the picture itself when you're linking from Pixiv, places like Deviantart, Tumblr and Twitter you use the url of the page where the image is hosted.
In Tumblr and Twitter cases, where there can be several pics in the same page, you use the image's url to upload and THEN you have to manually put the source once the image has been posted
It is on the rules of how to upload, and it's common courtesy
Well, if a pic is uploaded from the source of the pic itself on Twitter but have a artist_request tag (because there's no artist name nor signature), you see how troublesome it is to identify it.
I could have swore I uploaded it by link to the direct image. I guess I must have made a mistake because I uploaded from my phone, sorry.
You did upload from the direct image. That's the issue - for twitter you should upload from the work page, not the direct image. Please do not keep switching the source back to the direct image link as the work page is more useful.

I had fixed the source already, you didn't need to switch back to the url you originally used, the one we keep telling you is NOT the one to use for source.
