ワルピーチ walupeach walpeach wapeach ワピーチ プリーチ
A scrapped Mario character, pitched during the production of the Mario Tennis series. After successfully pitching Waluigi for N64 Mario Tennis, the team at Camelot (such as designer Aoki Fumihide) attempted to pitch a similar 'warui' counterpart for Princess Peach, reaching the design phase for their second attempt during Mario Power Tennis. The concept would be rejected by Nintendo due to their belief that any design for her would either not be appealing, or resemble that of Yatterman's Doronjo (due to Waluigi resembling Boyakki, and Wario filling in the Tonzura position, completing the Doronbo Gang parallel), and wanting to avoid such similarities. The design would not be shown for years.
As a result, most designs which exist of her online are generally fan-made, typically based on a certain set of ideas (ex. a Princess that resembles Wario or Waluigi in proportions or/and appearance, sometimes akin to Princess Shokora's appearance in Wario Land 4's ending if you only collected two to five chests; a more villainous-looking Princess, sometimes in the style of Shadow Queen-possessed Peach from Thousand Year Door, sometimes more devilish, sometimes just generically more mean-looking than Peach or Daisy; a Princess that actually has a design resemblance to Doronjo; a mix of the above, etc), with the name used in Western circles generally being Wapeach. Some have even dubbed Captain Syrup as Wario's Peach counterpart. Warupeach had been used once before in official Mario media, in the Super Mario Kodansha manga, referring to a Princess Peach brainwashed by Wario.
The design created by Camelot at the time was revealed in 2008 to have been that of a "datenshi-style" character which wasn't inspired by and did not resemble Doronjo. On December 1st, 2023, said design for Warupeach (or Walpeach) would be shown off to the public*, by way of Aoki Instagram, featuring the alternate name of "Priech" (プリーチ). The black-and-white concept art would be paired with images of an in-color 3D model. Aoki would go on to try and answer many questions on Warupeach regarding design choices and personal ideas for her in the comments of the two Instagram posts. Japanese Twitter users would remark that the design's age choice would have predicted Yoru no Yatterman's take on Doronjo in Leopard, while her hair and ears give her a look akin to Time Bokan's Maajo (turning the Doronbo Gang parallel into a Time Skeletons parallel). Western Twitter users would meanwhile remark on the hair making her resemble Rosalina. while also inspiring further fan designs.
* Aoki removed the posts the following day, and made his profile private.
